April brought a wide range of productions to our musical world, from festive recordings to world premiere performances, explorations in spatial audio, and more. Dive in for a look at our latest endeavors and a glance at what’s to come.

A Festive Start to Spring

As the frost fades and flowers begin to bloom, the production team is already looking ahead to next winter and the music that will accompany it. Together with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra at Vesmír Concert Hall, the team recorded two festive works by composers Christopher J. Hoh and Josef Suk, both of which will be included on the next DASHING album from Navona Records.

Patricia Morehead and the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra

This month brought the world premiere performance of PARMA artist Patricia Morehead’s Voyage Across Centuries, a piece she describes as a tone poem to Beethoven and North Bay. The piece was presented as part of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra’s Penderecki Contemporary Music Festival under the baton of Sergey Smbatyan.

New Music in Dolby Atmos

Over in Post Production, PARMA Senior Producer Brad Michel, who received a Gramophone award for his work in Immersive Audio in 2021, is taking audio to new heights with Dolby Atmos. Michel worked closely with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra’s upcoming Navona Records release, CONTEMPORARY COLORS VOL 2, this month to bring new dimensions of sound to the album, which will feature several works by Maltese composers.

“The goal is for recordings to not sound like recordings,” said Michel. “We want them to foster the experience of being there; whether being directly on stage or in the best seat in the hall — wherever you would want to be surrounded by music.”
