JULY RELEASES OUT NOW

RESONATING COLOURS 5

Hong Kong Composers’ Guild

Seven composers, seven takes on contemporary composition: With RESONATING COLOURS 5, the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild presents a compilation featuring some of the most remarkable voices in chamber composition the autonomous city-state has brought forth.

FOR THE PEACE OF CITIES

Philip Koplow

“If you are hurt and angry don’t use violence—write a poem or a song. Use your feelings to create something.” Philip Koplow did just that during his lifetime as a composer, writing orchestral pieces commemorating tragedies of war and violence. His works, alongside those of other composers who wrote to honor the lives lost in war tragedies, are celebrated in Ravello Records’ FOR THE PEACE OF CITIES.

QUADRANTS VOL 3

Altius Quartet; Bruce Babcock; Nora Morrow; Gary Smart; Jonathan Newmark; Alastair White; Janice Macaulay; Beth Mehocic; Phelps Dean Witter

The series that brought both traditional and genre-defying collections of string quartet works is back with QUADRANTS 3, the latest from Navona Records featuring the acclaimed Altius Quartet and eight contemporary composers.

BIRTH OF A CITY

David Haney

Many people will be familiar with music’s general demand for painstaking accuracy as well as the phrase “Sheet music is not a template for improvisation.” Those who prefer to think outside these confines will enjoy making the acquaintance of jazz pianist David Haney, who habitually blurs the line between notation and improvisation, most recently in his newest release BIRTH OF A CITY.
