Stuart Beatch
Stuart Beatch is a composer currently living in Edmonton, Canada. His composition teachers have included Drs. Scott Smallwood, Andriy Talpash, Mark Hannesson, and Howard Bashaw. In 2013, he completed a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Regina (www.uregina.ca); currently, at the University of Alberta (www.ualberta.ca), he is working towards a further Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in Composition and Theory, with plans to enter into graduate studies next year.
Stuart’s music comes from a passion for the simple and traditional, often contrasted against relentless rhythms and chaotic harmonies. His work Death and Resurrection for chamber orchestra was selected by the Regina Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players to be a part of their thirtieth anniversary concert. His first two choral pieces, Gaudete and Requiem for the Fallen, won two consecutive calls for scores by the University of Regina Chamber Singers, and were both performed by that group during their 2012-13 season. Recent commissions have also included works for String Theory (a Regina-based string quartet) and the Bridge City Brass Band.
